What is My Choice – My Voice?

It is a social norms campaign. Social norms are what people perceive to be true, and this campaign is to help students understand the truth about Saline County students and drinking. The theme is MY CHOICE – MY VOICE which means I have a choice and it is time I voice my opinions about alcohol and drugs. 6th grade students will be seeing messages throughout local schools and community businesses stating the Saline County statistics about youth and alcohol use. Posters, window cling-ons, table tents, and other media material will be posted throughout the school buildings so that the 6th graders will be enveloped in the message. The posters show that 3 out of 4 students, more precise 72% of Saline county students DO NOT drink. (Data from the Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey is representative of all Saline County youth grades 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th.)

A core group of four to fifteen 6th graders has been formed at each representative school who know about this campaign and are leading the initiative within their school building while the IMPACT Coalition will lead the initiative throughout the county.
